The Unnoticed Blessings

Image
If you're capable of reading this Then let it be known, you live in bliss Almost half of the world can not read So blessed we are, by God indeed! Do you have food in your fridge & a nice warm bed? Clothes on your back, with a roof over your head? You are in the richest twenty five percent Do you thank God for the favours you are sent Strange to you are the dangers of battle and war The agony of prison, torture and more The horrible, stabbing pangs of starvation Say Alhamdulilah that for you these are fiction If you woke up this morning not feeling ill Let me tell you right now, there's a million who will They'll get worse with time & won't survive the week Think about your blessings before you speak

The Second Day of Marriage (part 1)

Image
The alarm goes off for morning prayer A stranger next to me, sleeping right there Who is this, sharing my bed!? Oh yes, that's right last night we wed She's not heard the alarm, shall I wake her? It feels like we should pray together Do I call her name or give her a shake anxious of the wrong decision I'll make I call her softly, don't want to startle To my surprise. she starts to giggle "I wanted to see what you would do" She's so beautiful, then love is true We quickly bathed & prayed as one Noticing that my nerves have gone Starting things off in the right way Let's make the most of our first full day

There was a girl

Image
T'was a girl I used to love And she brought me up above Did more than all the rest And helped me be the best   Her smile always bright Her kindness was so right She cried tears for me When I joined the family   I thought, Could she be the one? A better girl? There was none! Admiring from close and afar She was my guiding star   It was time to move ahead Down separate paths we were led We were meant to keep in touch But I got selfish & didn’t try much   Weeks to months, then finally years We cracked on with our careers Still on my mind everyday Even though I kept her at bay     A decade on, and re-acquainted I was shocked, I nearly fainted The girl whose home was in my heart Seemed to have made a fresh start   Looked and seemed to be the same Still responded to her old name No longer innocent and pure A different girl, of that I’m sure   The guiding star was now gone Trust me, this is not a con There was a

The Blessings of Children

Image
You've had a tough day A ten hour shift But there's an easy way To get an emotional lift You walk through the door  The kids run to you Your days stress, no more So you run to them too Smile and laughing Wrestling and play You'd never want a thing Over this, no, no way! We'd sacrifice our lives For them in a beat To the husbands and wives Children make you complete

The Masjid

Image
You're my refuge From the evils of the earth In my life, your impact's huge Everything, that's what you're worth Five times a day We walk to you And especially Friday We often Queue The people we meet We grow to love Then heartily greet For His sake, above You're integral for us In mind, body & spirit Help keeping us pious I can't wait to visit.

The importance of friendship

Image
When I'm feeling weak Temptations growing My faith has a leak Without even knowing Left unaddressed Life falls apart End up depressed A disease in my heart Call out to my Lord I need some support I cannot afford This on my report He sent me a friend Nay, more like a brother Now on the mend We're improving each other

Commentary on Sahaba Poem No4 - Ali ibn Abu Talib رضي الله عنه

Image
This is a poem in a slightly different format to the others I've done so far. It is in the format of being addressed to the prophet, as is a common style in poetry. He was Harun  to your Musa   Your brother & your son (1)   Just before  Tabuk it was decided Ali     would be left behind. Ali, not being happy said that he didn't want to left behind with the women and the children. The Prophet   ﷺ  replied, “ Are you not pleased in the same position for me as Aaron was to Moses? But there is no prophet after me. ” Now this a statement used by the Rafidi to proclaim that this means Ali is an imam (a made up title/job role which gives him status equal or greater than the prophets). As we know Moses & Aaron were brothers, close in age and Moses specifically asked Allah to assist him with Aaron as a helper. Ali was a helper to the prophet. They were also, both raised by the same man. Abu Talib, the father of Ali also raised The Prophet  ﷺ  from the age of 8, once his mother

Sahaba Poem No4 - Ali ibn Abu Talib رضي الله عنه

Image
He was Harun  to your Musa Your brother & your son Abu Turab was his kunya The joke you made so fun If not the greatest scholar Then surely with his sword There was no finer warrior So loved by the Lord He gave you two more boys Called Hasan & Hussain  They brought you so much joy And helped take away the pain The leader of the Muslims But what a time of strife The Kharijites did kill him Cowards used a poison knife

Sahaba Poem No3 - Uthman ibn Affan رضي الله عنه

Image
The possessor of two lights An epitome of shyness Even the angels avert their sight A great man of business Known for his charity From a powerful clan A bastion of the community He helped finalize Quran Given glad tidings of heaven Third leader after the prophet Bought a well & made it open So that thousand would benefit Murdered reciting al-Quran He left such a large Khalifah From the east in Afghanistan To the west in Tunisia

Commentary of Sahaba Poem No1 - Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه

Image
He was the first amongst us - Abu Bakr   was the first free man to join Islam once the Prophet    started his prophethood. There is a difference of opinion with regards to who was first person between Abu Bakr, Ali, Zaid ibn Harith & Khadijah    . There is a nice explanation by the scholars here. Abu Bakr was the first notable man to enter Islam, Khadijah was the first woman to enter Islam, Ali was the first child to enter Islam, Zaid was the first freed slave to enter Islam. (1) Others mention Waraqah ibn Nawfal  as someone who accepted Islam extremely early, yet he was to pass away when the Prophets   mission had hardly started. Not only is Abu Bakr the first amongst us in this sense, he was the first leader of the Ummah after the prophet. He was also the first amongst us to do good deeds (2) Of even whom Ali (ر) was jealous - This comes from a quote from Ali, where he says  " Abu Bakr has most certainly excelled me in four aspects: leadership in salah, leadership of the p

Sahaba Poem No2 - Umar ibn Al-Khattab رضي الله عنه

Image
At first, a stern enemy Yet filled with such quality The prophet   prayed for his company Then he discovered Quran's beauty If another prophet was made It would have been him Even Iblis was afraid The leader of jinn It was under his rule That the Persians fell With Islam as the fuel He sent the romans to hell Such a great leader He left no-one in need A dark day was his murder But Umar died a Shaheed

Sahaba Poem No1 - Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه

Image
He was the first amongst us Of even whom Ali (ر) was jealous The closest companion, so sublime In the desert journey, a torrid time None were more charitable Nor were they as able The freer of slaves Oh, so much he gave A personality so meek But he was far from weak Relentless with each pillar Merciless apostate killer One of the ten promised paradise Beloved to the prophet    full of advice By his side in Uhud & Badr His name of course, is Abu Bakr

My journey to Islam

Image
I was raised a Roman Catholic. My dad wasn’t really into religion, my mum wasn’t much either but it was important for her that we were Catholic. (I’m part Irish & religion is important for the Irish)  I went to a Catholic school, and from my earliest memories I always fully believed in God. I believed in the trinity but never looked into it closely with a magnifying glass.  When I was 8, my mother, brother & I moved in with my great-grandmother (mums mums mum) & she was an extremely devout Catholic. She would go to the church 5x per week, raised orphans and would take care of disabled people. A great woman.  She would drag myself & my brother to the church on the weekends. It was always just full of old people & I’d always fall asleep. The only good thing about it was the etiquette & respect of a place of worship.  At this point (late 90’s) I didn’t even know what Muslims were. I remember my mum driving past an Islamic school for girls & I asked her where
